Go the Extra Mile!

Travel day for me!

My Uber driver arrived early, so we’re off to a great start. However, he didn’t get out of the car to help me with my bags. #petpeeve

Long ago, my husband introduced me to “PPI,” which stands for Presume Positive Intent. It means that before judging someone or a situation negatively, try to see it differently.

While sitting in the back seat, I chatted with the friendly driver and enjoyed the jazz music he played. Using my “PPI” skills to justify him not getting out of the car to greet and help me, I thought: “He’s in a jazz band and has a broken leg, but not the one he’s driving with.” He also wore a cool beatnik hat.

Honestly, he was quite overweight, and it was probably difficult for him to get in and out of the car.

After passing through security, I stopped at my favorite restaurant for breakfast and sat at the bar. One older woman was managing the entire restaurant, also serving as the bartender. It was 7:55 a.m., and they couldn’t serve alcohol until 8 a.m. She treated me as if I were her only customer, being polite, cheerful, and attentive. At 8 a.m., she returned to her orders and began mixing drinks. No judgment… it’s surprising how people use travel or vacation mornings to start the party. “PPI” – they are anxious travelers, and it helps calm their nerves. :)

Because my driver was early, friendly, safe, and played excellent music, he received a 20% tip. The hardworking bartender, with her genuine authenticity, got a 50% tip.

So, my lovelies, next time you find yourself on either side of the table, try using “PPI.” It’s a mindset and a reminder we all need occasionally. Or, go the extra mile and brighten someone’s day!
