Explain Less, Enjoy More!

I live my life feeling guilty. I feel guilty for every decision that I make which puts me first. Who cares if it's to benefit my mental and physical well-being? I still feel guilty.
The question is WHY?
My husband knows firsthand that I explain my life away. I have a habit of telling him everything I’m about to do, no matter how small. It’s like I feel the need to justify my every move.
Last week, I had lunch with a new friend. We were discussing this very topic. She mentioned struggling with the idea of grabbing a cup of coffee, hopping on the couch, and reading a book midday. Is it because we’d feel like we were being lazy?
I was telling her how recently Paul (my husband) and I had a movie weekend at home. We watched double features both days. I also mentioned that we never do that during the day. She looked at me and said: “You’re doing it again, explaining your decisions.” Dang it, she was right!
I am working really hard to free myself from feeling like I owe anyone an explanation for my decisions. They are just that, mine!
We need to stop thinking that we are being judged because we are not!
We need to be selfish, be lazy, and put ourselves first. We need to enjoy the smallest of pleasures. Most importantly, we need to nurture our souls and our bodies.
We need to tell ourselves that it is okay to just “be.” It is okay to find balance, and it is okay to live the life that we were gifted in a manner that truly makes us Happy, Healthy & Fit!
What does that look like for you? Oh wait, don’t tell me! :)
Cheers, M. xo
