Does How We Present Ourselves Still Matter or Exist? God I hope so!

What happened to prioritizing our appearance?

Just a heads-up—this might be contentious!

Do you recall when first impressions held significance, or do they still…

Recently, I've had several discussions with young women from a much younger generation about our clothing choices and how we present ourselves.

It was my observations, in addition to the conversations, that motivated me to write about this.

I understand, I'm into hair and makeup. So what!

But what happened to the standards that were established or that we established?

I previously worked at a leading intimates company. The brand maintained high standards, which I appreciated.

Examples:

- Wear only black and white for an elegant and classy look!

- Ensure your hair is well-groomed.

- Choose modest nail colors.

- When standing with your hands on your legs, your skirt or dress should not be shorter than that point.

- Cover any tattoos.

- Remove facial piercings.

Yesterday, Paul and I spent the entire afternoon watching movies. Two of the films were set in the 1960s and 1970s. Get this... the women were impeccably dressed, wearing high heels as they began their days as stay-at-home wives.

I'm not endorsing this, definitely not! However, I am suggesting that as a society, we should dial it back a bit.

Yes, Mark Zuckerberg, we all appreciate a hoodie. However, are they suitable for the workplace? In my opinion, no.

Let's go back to my conversation with those two young women.

In the first conversation, she mentioned, "Why don't people in California dress up anymore? And no, Lululemon leggings don't count."

In my second conversation with my latest podcast guest, we discussed the idea that "the rule of thumb should be 2 out of 3," and no, I'm not referring to the Meatloaf song. This rule applies to hair, makeup, and your outfit. Can we aim to focus on two of these aspects?

Focusing on our daily self presentation has a direct impact on our mindset. Don't overlook this.

Be proud of your identity and the way you carry yourself.

Do I pop on sweatpants as part of my outfit-100%! However, I at least do my hair and makeup. Just Saying...

I 100% agree! Who doesn’t feel better after puting themselves together. My mother would tell me when I was growing up first impressions are everything. Say I am just doing an errand day but I a really not feeling it, just fixing my hair adding some blush, lipstick and eyebrow pencil makes me feel put together. It will take me less than 5 min. If I by chance run into someone I feel good about seeing them and am not worried what I look like. These are just my thoughts.
